Portlanders love their coffee, their microbrews and most certainly their music. Recently, shows such as Portlandia and Grimm have swept Portland culture into the mainstream. Hovering just outside of the recent spotlight, however, is the music. Unless your personal network includes those individuals who have their finger on Portland’s musical pulse, the music that thrives here remains veritably unrecognized even in the most independent of cities.
Portland Soundcheck creates an opportunity for music enthusiasts here in Portland to catch a fresh glimpse of this rich culture. Through a selection of local music on the cusp, as well as artists from national successes such as "The Voice", "American Idol" and "MTV Real World", Portland Soundcheck offers a taste of the diverse musicians currently playing their talents here in the Rose City.
The Portland Soundcheck showcase shines with homegrown music talent, all local and with strong community ties, all brought together for an evening of amazing music. In one evening you'll be able to tour part of Portland's music scene at one venue. Many artists enthusiastically got involved to share their flair for the Jan 25th event at the iconic Aladdin Theater.

Haley Johnsen

Some will recognize this artist from American Idol Season 11’s Top 24. Although she didn’t start playing guitar and writing until age 20, Haley’s rich voice and musical talent quickly propelled her from her college performances to national acclaim.
Beat Frequency

Their audition on The Voice, Season 3 was a chair turner, landing them on Christina Aguilera’s Team. Since this duo met, Shawn and Natasha have been melding dance beats and dynamic vocal blends to create a passionate music experience. From America’s Got Talent to X-Factor to their performances on The Voice, these are two of the NW’s up-and-coming.
Patrick Hammond

One moment he’s serving up lattes, the next, he’s serving up smooth and soulful notes. The Forest Grove local’s natural smoky sound and earnest lyrics are opening doors. This self-taught artist’s music has even been featured on MTV’s “The Real World: San Diego”.
Enric Sifa

This Singer/Songwriter and winner of "Rwanda Idol” had a rough beginning. A survivor of the Rwanda genocide and orphan at a young age, his story is one of perseverance and hope. Currently he attends college here in Portland, and continues to use his music to touch lives as an advocate for children’s rights.
Xile

This hip hop rapper has gained popularity through his passion and enthusiasm for the Oregon Ducks. He has self-produced hit music videos that rallied passionate Oregon fans and former Oregon football players too. Xile's anthems have united Oregon duck nation with songs like "O Time" and "Gotta Get It."
Brant Colella

This artist's passion for music is matched by his passion for the people around him. Giving until it hurts, he has been known to spend all he had to provide the homeless with housing and food. The same genuine and captivating qualities of this artist's personal life are reflected in the music he plays.
Talilo

Born in Iloilo, Pihllippines, this young artist came to the states at a young age. A rough and abusive family life drove led him to the streets. A destructive path of gangs, theft and violence landed him in prison by age 19. It was a turning point. His music targets those with similar stories, seeking to inspire people to choose non-violence. Through his music he hopes to touch the lives of those similarly entrapped by their circumstances. With what money he raises, he dreams of bringing his impoverished family out of the Philippines to a brighter future in America.
Sarah Billings

The newest arrival to Portland's well-established rhythm and blues scene. Her vocals are spicy and soulful. You may have heard her on "KINK FM'S Local Artist Spotlight" or on the stage of largest Jazz festival west of the Mississippi. She gigs throughout the city with her blues family, respectable musicians like The Boogie Cat and Renato Caranto.
David Martin

The real value in life is in relationships, not results. Maybe that's the ultimate result: how much we've loved. This producer and singer/songwriter wrote a batch of love songs for his wife in his debut album of "Something In Your Eyes." He hopes his songs spark a greater love for others, because true love is worth whatever it costs.
Katie Carlene

She finds her courage and strength through writing music, singing and playing songs. This Newberg resident and indie artist is working on her second album called "Lux". It's an album about love, hope, the dark and the light.
Alessandra Rose

Expect brooding piano compositions and deep, dusky vocals from Alessandra Rose. She wants you to know from her recent album that "You Are Gold." After quitting her job, she now pursues music full-time as a new resident of Portland.
Dearborn

Three is better than one. This three sister band have soaring elegant melodies and rich harmony vocals filled with folk, pop and stomp. Their songs are about being young and figuring out life. The band consists of Natalie Closner, Allie Closner and Meegan Closner.
